S. B. Lady Daphne

Spend a day on a wooden sailing vessel built in 1923. Board at London Bridge and sail under Tower Bridge which will be specially raised for you en route to Canary Wharf, Greenwich and the Thames Barrier. Alternatively, hold a reception in St. Katharine's Dock or go clay pigeon shooting.

Classic boat charter – Sailing Barge Lady Daphne can sail with 54 passengers and 3 crew (57 in total), although smaller numbers permit everyone to participate in sailing. For "static" (berthside) charters, she can handle numbers up to 80 depending upon your requirements. Lady Daphne is one of the most famous of London's classic wooden vessels still sailing. 91 feet long (28 meters), 21 feet wide (6.5 metres), built in 1923 at a gross tonnage of 117 tonnes, able to transport 220 tonnes of cargo, Lady Daphne was one of the many thousand Thames sailing barges built for the English coastal trade from the 18th century until the middle of the 20th century.

There are fewer than 30 sailing barges left in Britain, only six wooden barges with passenger certificates, and only two in London. You can live history during a day on Lady Daphne, as it was during her working life, one of thousands of red-sailed ships dominating London's skyline in the days before road transport, by:

  • sailing down the Thames and have Tower Bridge raised on the way;
  • spending a weekend in a barge match or exploring the coast;
  • shooting clay pigeons on the Thames;
  • holding a cocktail or birthday party by the Tower of London for up to 80;
  • sailing and watching the races at Cowes;
  • holding a business meeting, wine tasting or reception with a difference;
  • spend your next Christmas party or dinner by a wood fire at Tower Bridge;
  • host a dinner party intimately for six, grandly for 28 or buffet for 60.
